That's exactly what I was thinking, Gary. As soon as I got this plant in my tank I thought it wasn't the proper setting for it. My immediate reaction was, "This would look better in a guppy tank."
The one stem I planted against the very tall rock in back looks good there. I'm going to leave it and keep an eye out for it sending out runners. The rest is going bye-bye.
Have you ever kept this plant?

A weed is a plant that is growing where it is not wanted. Different gardeners will have different ideas as to what constitutes a "weed" in the garden.

Oh this plant has it's uses but you have to keep it well groomed or you'll have a messy mess on your hands.

That's not P. gayi, which is native to Central & South America, but other Potamogeton species are indeed native to the northern U.S...some are better for aquaria than others. As a tropical species, P. gayi is typically a better candidate for heated tanks—the northern species expect cold winters and don't all thrive in the long term indoors.
Anyway, I agree with those who say P. gayi isn't demanding, but it is an interesting plant for creating a thicket in the mid- to background of a tank.
