For those of us who have only known the aquarium and ADA side of his work, his photography is also stunning.

I'm sorry, but I'm a bit skeptical of this news story. So far there is one Wikipedia page (not the most trustworthy source) and one Japanese news website that has already changed the story several times. Nothing from any other international news outlets. Nothing on the official ADA website. And if there is something on http://amanotakashi.jp/ about his passing then I'm having a heck of a time trying to find it.

Perhaps it's just because I have too many actor friends that have been declared dead on Wikipedia (even though they are still very much alive) that I am inclined to wait until more than one major Japanese news agency report it before I start mourning Amano's death. Anyone can edit a Wikipedia page and the page for Takashi Amano has been edited multiple times in the past 24 hours.

Perhaps someone at TFH can confirm or debunk Amano's passing.

Just received the latest Aqua Design Amano Newsletter in my inbox this morning. Not a word about Mr. Amano's supposed passing. I'm becoming even more skeptical.

Fair enough. It just seems peculiar that it is not being reported more widely in the Japanese media. As I stated, I've had so many actor friends declared dead on Wikipedia and the world takes it as the gospel truth when in fact each of my friends was (and still are) alive and kicking. And no mention in the ADA newsletter about Amano's death seemed strange to me.

It is finally confirmed. From the ADA website...

And now my heart breaks.

That was seriously sad news. Mr. Amano was the benchmark most of us Planted Tank (and the reason in the first place) we aspired.

He'll be missed by many.
