Leave plants floating or anchor them.

Postby tank71 (115) » Tue Dec 30, 2014 4:17 am

Happy New Years guys well been doing some tank cleaning and pulling out some plants out of of my nano tank which I was kinda of using as temporary storage.
Most of the plants are assorted java fern, java fern babies and anubias which were just left floating in my nano, but now I got some extra tank space I was thinking of using some bbq lava rock to secure the plants.
Would anchoring them be better or just leave em floating around.

IMO: anchor them and let the aquascaping begin!

floating or anchored Java Fern doesn't matter, as long as the Rhizome is exposed it's happy. Java Fern is a spray zone plant (found near Waterfalls, fast water movement) and often is growing partially immersed. As long as it's kept moist, and the rhizome can get it's nutrients, you have a bullet proof plant.

I often recommend keeping this plant under direct water movement.

I secured the bigger Java ferns to pieces of lava but I left the smaller baby ones floating around. I'm kinda of amazed how many pieces of Java fern I had in the nano plus all the baby ones I shook loose from the adult plants.

Oh yeah, and they really reproduce once they start going... You can end up with an entire tank full of Java Fern!
