Fast growing easy plant suggestions

Postby AMcCaleb (74) » Fri Nov 02, 2012 4:16 pm

I have a 120 gal tank that I just started adding live plants to. Right now I have several different types of plants in there but I'm looking for some suggestions on some easy growing plants that do ok in a gravel bed.

The gravel is your typical small grained petco gravel, an I have a 4 bulb 216w t5 ho light setup. I use seachem flourish plant tabs in the substrate and I dose daily with flourish excel and weekly with API leaf zone.

Right now I have two types of Anubias, amazon sword, ozelot sword, wisteria, java fern, and anacharis in my tank. Any suggestions on good fast growing plants that I could keep? I really like the way wisteria looks when it grows and I'm just looking for some more variety. Suggestions and pics are welcome.

The Aponogetonaceae (Cape-pondweed family or Aponogeton family)are fairly easily grown and their leaves would add variety to your tank. These plants are grown from bulbs and as I gathered assorted bulbs are available for sale in places like Walmart so you could easily acquire some.

Try Potamogeton gayi and you will really know what is a fast growing or easy growing plant - but don't try it in your display aquarium or else you will find your aquarium packed with a weed which you cannot get rid of.

You could try Hornwort (Ceratophyllum Submersum). Grows fast and tolerates almost any water & lighting conditions. That stuff will grow anywhere. Plus it's a pretty plant that makes a nice contrast to more leafy plants. Great plant for fry to hide in.
