As for lighting effects, we've been discussing in another thread about using a translucent white background for your tank and putting spots behind it to get different effects. Just a thought...

I have not looked into prices yet, however if you would throw the link to the tread about the effects to me I'd like to let this thread drop help is on the way I found a good book about plants and will be getting the <other fish magazine> now so I'll be more informed in my next post a good bit of time from now LOL

"Compact fluorescent Clamp on Lamp adjusts for perfect illumination for live rock, mushroom corals, zooanthids, invertebrates, and freshwater fish. Plus, this energy-saving lamp features telescoping arms, space-saving design, adjustable light hood, and a remote ballast for a cooler running environment."
"9W 50/50 lamp "

at less that's what the web-page said, it comes with an all in one tank that I don't need the light for but is a bit much to pay for a 3g tank unless the light will be good for something else

I used a JBJ 18W Power Compact on my Eclipse 6 system with amazing results. They are worth the keep. Its a heck of a lot of light for 3GAL, but you can do a nicely planted system with it. Dwarf Hairgrass, Glosso and a few other of the light hungry plants would like the wattage.

At 9W, you'll barely break the 1WPG mark. But once again, you can still keep the low light plants, just adjust things to keep things going nicely.
