Good bottom dwellers for my 29gal

My 29gal lacks something that's a bottom dweller that swims around. I had an Albino Rainbow Shark, but he died due to an ich catastrophe. Now that my 29gal is stabilized, I am thinking about getting another bottom dweller for that tank. Would a gold CAE or another Rainbow Shark be better for this tank? I don't need them to eat algae and they can be slightly aggressive. I am probably going to be upgrading to a 72gal within a year or so.

My total Stock right now is:
3X Cherry Barbs
4X Tiger Barbs
8X Harlequin Rasboras
Possibly - 2X Kuhlie Loaches(I don't know if they are alive anymore?)
2X Clown Plecos

I would hold off for a while. You say you have a good Shrimp Colony in there? They do a wonderful job at eating detrius or anything else for that matter. Also, you stated you lost your Rainbow Shark due to Ich, I would not put anything in this tank fish wise for about 4 weeks. Gives the Cysts time to die off as they can't find a suitable host.

K2 - please don't think that your tank is stable - it is way too soon! You really need that month of not moving or changing anything at all - just basic water changes and gravel cleaning for it to be stable.

Gary - Shrimp are pending for this tank. My sig. is just my final plans.
Kylie - Ok. I'll just keep up with maintainance everything for now. I still haven't seen my Kuhlies...but they are REALLY good hiders and I haven't feed the tank today(or the others). I haven't added any new fish since 12/24/08 ...so I'll wait and see how everything will go in this tank.

I'm just talking about WHEN you guys think it's time to add a new fish. My mom wants me to add 3 tiger barbs, but I'm waiting to see how the new additions are going to do. So far, they are GREAT.

Adding fish to that tank right now is a recipe for disaster. The Ich parasite needs to be without a fish host for at least 1 month before it dies (nothing to feed/reproduce on). Adding fish will just keep the parasite around longer and kill off a new batch of fish.

Ich is dormant now(not seeing it on ANY fish) but I'm keeping salt in for a while...and as you said, it could take over the new batch of fish killing them.

Kuhlies are out. I've seen them fight off the tiger, harlequin and cherry barbs for the tubifex block I threw in.

Kuhli's are your best bet for your Bottom Dwellers BTW. They are nocturnal mainly and do a wonderful job of moving around the substrate as they dig and move on it.

Really? I was thinking of something else. Ok, well, when I find some more (they are RARE where I live), I'll pick some up.

Just let the tank settle. I'm sure it'll have settled long before you find Kuhli's again. So it works for your advantage.

 They don't show up when I need them too! Just about everytime I don't!! The 2 Kulies in my 29gal are out and about after the WC and look really good, so I think I WILL get kuhlies when I find some. Only the black kuhlies. Don't need yellow in my tank.

Like the old adage, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't force him to drink.

Kuhli's are usually out more in dimly lit aquariums.

Probably won't be until next year till I can buy some new fish. My new 44gal is going to probably be my years allowance for myself on fish!! I'm set onto that tank but won't buy ANY new fish until I get that tank. I don't want the 29gal crashing!

Just as well K2, give your tanks some "stable" time where nothing is new and nothing is changed. This way, you can concentrate on the water changes etc and watch the tanks flourish without interruption.

That's what I'm thinking too Gary. I'm kinda wondering if my idea of buying the 44gal soon and letting the hairgrass & crypts grow emeresd would be a good idea...Stocking and aquatic plants can come later...I need to be patient with this new tank-to-be and PLAN IT OUT!

Sounds like a sensible mature decision.
