First SWT

After eight freshwater tanks I finally jumped into the SWT world, besides the much higher cost to set up and the cost of fish and corals I think I may be hooked. I have a 100 gallon reef tank with a 40 gallon sump system. I used live rocks and live sand. I have a sump with no baffles( mistake one ) with a cone protein skimmer. I will pick every ones minds on a few things but one that is really getting me is the overflow box. I made all the plumbing in the sump quite but the overflow is loud and I have it in my living room. The noise is coming from the waterfall effect and not from the pipes, I can't raise the level any more so any ideas what I may try?
And if anyone has any pointers for me that may help me avoid disasters I'm open. :D

Try putting a piece of filter foam in the overflow box. It will work like a pre-filter and might quiet things down a bit too.

I found the solution to my overflow being to noisy. I was changing my sock filter and it crossed my mind that if I installed a shut off valve that I could regulate the return rate and raise the level in the tank slightly. After I install the valve I closed it maybe 10% and now the noise is gone. It was a simple fix that was less then $5.00. Who would have thought I would get a brain storm while cleaning fish Poo?
