Suddenly, my 2x4 frame on cinderblocks feels so underwhelming...This is beautiful!

lol...been there, done that, and that type of stand is totally functional! However, this one is going in my wife's living room (notice I said my wife's living room), so I had to dress it up a bit.

When I had my 2x4 cinder block stand, I had the 2x4s stained, and lacquered, and the blocks were painted...perfectly acceptable, in my mind.

Spouses (<--- played it safe!) just don't understand.

 I did stain the frame, and the cinder blocks have a natural "red dirt" stain! It is outside, anyway! Thanks for the inspiration!

I also have used quite a few concrete block stands.
I always paint or stain or seal the wood.
Never painted the blocks, though.

When I use commercial or cabinet types of stands they seem to fall apart. They do look nicer when used indoors, though.

Currently all the tanks are in a greenhouse-like fish room, and I am making much sturdier stands for them.

JB, your custom stand is looking really nice!

Thanks to all for the compliments, thus far.

Update for tonight...

I've decided the top of the stand will have tile. Initially I thought the smaller tile with the web backing, like the stuff I posted the picture of, but I think I'm going to go with something different. I picked up some 6" x 6" tiles and they seem to be the perfect fit, but I'm probably going to get a different color that the ones here in these pictures...they don't quite go with the color scheme the way I thought they would.

Anyway, this is the general look the top will have, once I decide on another tile. Really need to hurry and make a decision on a mounting idea for the canopy before I put this tile on...hmmm

Ahh, I got a bit diverted working on some other projects. I did pick up a 20gal long to use as a sump though. We just recently got a Pet Supplies Plus here, and they did a $1/gal sale, so I couldn't resist getting one. Gotta get the baffles cut and siliconed in. I did have a couple goes at the canopy, but I don't like either one, so I'm currently struggling with how I'm going to get that done. Once I make some more progress, I'll post up with some pictures.
