One was OK but 3 are toooooo many

Postby SteveJor (660) » Mon Feb 25, 2013 8:32 pm

I bought 2 more pieces of LR from All Pets Club.
Got 2 more mantis.
This is now 3 mantis out of 3 pieces of fiji rock.
WTH! There is an all out battle raging now in the tank and these this are LOUD. They even smashed some of the LR and dust is floating around.
How can I get rid of the problem (I want to keep the peacock but not the other 2 ugly ones LOL) without tearing everything down and soaking the rocks to make sure I got them out?

You could try to bait them into the open with food. . . But I'm not sure they'll really care with a rival near by. They may be more interested in killing each other. That is one BIG downside to keeping FW or SW fish. . . I honestly can't suggest a good way to catch them without stirring up the tank too much. :(

I wish I could help you more. . . That is some serious luck you have there! I would go play the lottery! LOL

I've caught several of these things using a piece of PVC pipe. Cut a section of one inch pipe about 10" long, attach a cap to one end. On the other end, fix a 90 and a short (2" section). You now have an L shaped section. Remove the cap on the long straight section and place bait here (squid works the best). Replace the cap and lower the piping into your tank. You will need to bury it slighty to avoid floating. Usually within about an hour, your shrimps will seek out the bait. When they do, cap the other end. The will make them feel secure and protect your fingers during capping. You can then remove them safetly. If you get one you wish to keep, simply uncap the longer end and allow them to escape.
