Little white worms.

Hi. I have little white worms that are on the bottom of the tank. I think they are detritus worms. I have seen my Bristol Nose Plecos eat them. Are they harmful in the tank? How can I get rid of them? The tank has mostly BNP in it and 2 swordtails. It is a 10 gal tank. Have tried to clean the bottom of the tank. But the suction attachments are too long for the tank. I change water every 7-10days. I also have 2 filters running. Plants are growing like weeds. What am I doing wrong? Never had this problem before or seen these worms in the many years I have been keeping fish. Thanks Photoman

For what it is worth, I had something similar years ago. The worms were harmless. Worrying about them did no good. Tank maintenance seemed to keep them in check. It was more of an embarrassment to see them twitching about the tank than a danger to the fish, as I recall.

I bet cutting back on the feeding and aggressive gravel cleaning would reduce, but probably not eliminate, the critters.
