Good idea. Clown Plecs really love that wood! I've had the same with Bristlenose whittling a piece of wood almost down to nothing.

You mention peat moss. Is this the same thing as what one would get in a 50 pound bag for landscaping? I've seen it for different applications, but not this.

You have to make sure its 100% Natural, no chemical additives. The last thing you want is to introduce nasties into the tank.

I am pleased to report the Pims are in a new home. A neighbor friend recently got a big bow-front tank. So, that's where they are. They seemed much more relaxed after I put them in there. The Corydora's seem to be pleased with the much calmer environment. They can once again hover-in-place and rest on the bottom without being bulldozed.

Good deal, Norm...probably the best idea so the pims have room to stretch their fins a bit more.

Thank you both. I felt it was the right thing to do.

I had to educate my neighbor a little. He was not using anything to treat the water in his tank. I took my bottle of Start-Rite and showed him what it was and how to use it, and to go to Walmart and get his own. His tank had been running three weeks and he had not lost anything. I was amazed; tough little fish.

That's a good avatar J.B. Nice artwork.

I decided to go ahead and boil my two pieces of wood. The odor in the pail suggested there may be some sort of bacteria present. I plan to let it simmer for several hours. This may help to bring out more of the tannins also.

It turned out pretty good. The boiling seems to have removed most of the tannins and both pieces now are saturated enough to rest on the bottom. I will change the water frequently until there is nothing else leeching out.
