10 gal tetra & fancy guppy setup

Postby angelbaby (83) » Tue Nov 13, 2012 3:22 pm

Hello my fellow fish people! I have an empty 10 gallon sitting at home screaming my name to stock so I'm trying to find some good ideas for it.

I first thought a 10 with some cichlids but the only cichlids I keep going back to are Rams and not sure I want them lol.

So now I've moved on to an array of tetras with some fancy guppies for colour OR sparkling gouramis (not 100% sure of the scientific name) with maybe some fancy guppies/tetras OR bumblebee gobies with some habrosus corydoras (again not 100% sure on scientific name)

This clearly isn't a nano sized tank but I've kinda got nano sized fish in mind to stock it with. But nothing to crazy complicated.

Any input, suggestions or advice would be welcome with open arms :)

Thanks, Sam

I think the guppy/tetra combo is a good idea. Put the guppies together with some relatively peaceful tetras that aren't fin nippers and it should work nicely. And if the tetras aren't too small they will help control the guppy population.

Male guppy + female guppy = tank full of guppies.

Male guppy + female guppy + tetras = tank half full of guppies. ;)

Why not a "Tiny Town"? Dwarf/Pygmy Rasboras (Boraras maculata or Boraras merah) and some Cherry Shrimp? Winnipeg has a great selection of fish, you have a famous importer and explorer living in Town and has a business up by the Airport.

With the smaller Rasboras, you can get a large number of them making an impressive display and not overstocking your tank on the same note.

Does this guy sell to the public? Or do you know of any establishment (or stores I guess) that he sells to?

Also thanks for the suggestions. Please keep hem coming.

I was reading a different post and I just thought that maybe I could do shrimp? I've always wanted to keep shrimp but in my 55 the angelfish would eat them in a heartbeat. So maybe shrimp with fancy guppies and tetras or rasboras.

AHHHH! This is all so hard! I love setting up new tanks! Haha so much fun!

I feel your pain. Once I get into a position where I can set up more tanks (after my wife and I and out family move into a bigger house) I know I'm going to go nuts deciding exactly what I want to set up first.

I'm already nuts, so I'm already halfway there.

Spencer Jack supplies a lot of stores in town, this is why I suggested hooking into the ASW pipeline along with DFO. A lot of the Mom and Pop stores sometimes get fish from Spencer as well. Check'em out. I usually do "Fish Stores Crawls (or Swims)" and hit them all in one day just for fun. Wow, sad.

Boraras merah are the nicest of the Microrasbora species. They are also called Phoenix Rasboras.

I do that too!! I love going to the fish stores in the city. I just find it doesn't take very long because there's so few! I also find its fun to go with a friend or 2, but sadly all my fish friends recently aren't in the hobby anymore :(

Sometimes the Buddy System doesn't work, you often end up buying more.. ha ha. Today for me was a shining example of that, ended up with 4 more Otos and 4 more Black Neons..
