Gary & Laura Lee's Bolivia Fishing Discussion Thread

Postby freshfish (10322)

This thread is for any who wish to discuss or comment on the Journal I have begun of our recent fishing trip to Bolivia. I believe Gary will also be putting together another Journal of his own; so you'll get 2 different perspectives on this trip which I hope will be interesting. :D

This Journal will be fairly detailed and so is a work in progress; as of right this moment I'm about 1/2 way through day 3, and still have plenty that I will have to go back and add in later....

Anyways, here's the thread for the Journal:

Enjoy!!!

ROFL. With the amount of laughter that happened, I needed one myself.

Lots of great pics so far. The museum looks like it is worth the trip all on its own!

Yeah, we'd heard some stories about Trinidad that had made us nervous about stopping over, but I'm really glad we did- that museum was fantastic! BTW BottomFeeder- welcome to TFH! :D

I haven't finished out that day yet; after we left the museum we went to the river for the very first time, and Gary caught our first fish of the trip with a little aquarium net

Cor- I wouldn't have minded a wheelchair, either- keeping up with Bob required some serious hustling! Man, that man is a walker!! lol

I'll go work now on getting up at least the rest of our day in Trinidad...

Someone should tell that museum their tanks are a wee bit overstocked, though ;) .

Am I right in thinking there is a river in Trinidad full of rift lake cichlids? Perhaps you didn't venture around that much if it was just a short visit.

I have parakeets flying over my house at the moment, but very jealous you went somewhere a little more native to them!

Trinidad, Bolivia? Really? It's possible... we weren't there more than 24 hours... but it's also possible that this may be a different Trinidad, as it is a common city name throughout South and Central America.

Information about Bolivia really is few and far between. Most of the books and guides we were able to dig up were really targeted at the surrounding countries... there are NO major fish exporters in Bolivia, so the potential is there for undescribed species...

You'll have to excuse a long day of work followed by travelling home on public transport through London on a hot national bank holiday on the day of the Notting Hill carnival...thinking about it now, clearly the geography doesn't add up to how you would go via Trinidad the island in the Caribbean on your trip to Bolivia! Lol. Didnt entirely think that through, though in my defence there being a city called Trinidad is a new one on me!

But fairly sure there is a river on that island thats homes to some non-native rift lake cichlids...though obviously (now at least!) that would indeed be a long way for you to venture... :tomato:

Now that I think about it, I didn't specify anywhere that it was Trinidad, Bolivia... so that's a pretty understandable mistake, I think!

I'm going to find a good map of Bolivia and map out the places we were... Gary's on the hunt for one, too.

Very photo-heavy journal. I love it! That fish museum was nothing short of amazing! I'm looking forward to keeping up with this thread!
I'd love to stay and chat, but you're a total idiot.

I have the maps and just getting things arranged. Expect another massive journal shortly guys. I'm still cleaning up the damage my son caused at my place. AUGH.
