Considering setting my 55 gal tank up for smaller sized cichlids from lake T and lake M that will mature in the 4 inch range. Should I put just one of each variety interested in to avoid inter breed squabbles? Or would multiple examples of each variety work better?
Plan to have the tank planted with well anchored broad leaf plants, Amazon sword and Anubias types along with some background plants of Vallisneria gigantean. Liberal rock caves and driftwood for ample hiding places will be incorporated into the scape.
Species I am considering include julidochromis dickfeldi, labidochromis caeruleus, melanochromis auratus, lamprologus brevis, neolamprologus pulcher, & pelvicachromis pulcher plus a couple of bristlenose pleco's.
Are these variety that can coexist in the 55 gal tank setup? Would 2 of each be within stocking guidelines?
Water here is in the Hard and alkaline range, 7.6 pH is typical in both my tanks and the lfs's here,
