Jack Dempsey Food?

For my Jack Dempsey, Walter, I have Tetra Cichlid Floating Cichlid Pellets. He really doesn't like them. When he's hungry he will eat some, but not very much. There's almost always some left over. I know I'm not overfeeding. He's five inches and only eats a few pellets and the pellets are very small. My three inch convict eats more of them than him. I have frozen bloodworms, freeze dried crickets/mealworms/ and river shrimp, and freeze dried Tubifex worms. He eats much more when I feed these to him. Is there a food that he might like better and eat more of than the pellets, but is more nutritionally balanced like the pellets compared to the other foods?

Three things that I Never feed my cichlids are pellets, flakes, and tubiflex worms. I don't believe that they are very healthy or good for fish. l feed all my cichlids freeze dried and frozen foods with lots of vegetables. My Cichlids are very large and they eat like pigs. Their health is great.

Not all pellet and flake foods are created equal.

I happen to like the Angels Plus flake foods http://angelsplus.com/Foods.htm and most Hikari brand prepared foods. I know Hikari's cichlid pellets have a pretty good reputation, so you might try those?

I think variety is good for most omnivores. I rarely feed my fish the same foods 2 days in a row.

I stick with Hikari, Omega One, Frozen Foods (Bloodworms, Brine Shrimp, Glass Worms) and some fresh veggies on a clip. I will agree that not all foods are created equal. I don't mind paying a bit extra for quality.
