So I found out that I have a shrimp farm not to far from my house. They raise jumbo shrimp, which I can only assume are tiger prawn (Penaeus monodn). I went and took a tour and couldn't help but wonder if I could save a couple from certain death. I have a 50 gallon reef tank with a bit of everything sps, lps, softs, ect, and I was wondering if a tiger prawn or two would be okay? My tank also sports a lot of other inverts. Has anyone had any experience with tiger prawn? I would appreciate any info, thanks.

Interesting question, but I'm not a SW guy. Hang on until one of our SW stops by.

Re: Tiger prawn in reef tank?
Hmm, Well you've honestly got me stumped on this one. I have never considered it before. In my honest opinion, I would avoid it. Mostly due to the species described isn't often found on a reef. Usually in grassy flats where the sand is soft & full of nutrients. Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable taking that gamble myself. There are only a handful of shrimp truly "Reef Safe" as some like to munch on soft corals or stinging sp. of coral. I'd vote NO on introducing them to your reef tank. Just based on my opinion though. I hope this helps some. I apologize for the delayed response.
