Ill Clowns

Postby bostonrickb (209) » Fri Dec 13, 2013 9:28 pm

One of the clowns died today. The other still looks bad. They are swimming at the top of the tank ever since I did the gravle clean. They did look bad before the cleaning but after that they came out of there shell hiding spot and now swim at the top of the tank. It looks like they are trying to get more water flow across their gills since they wont close there mouth any more. The dead one looked like his stomach was not empty and his mouth able to be moved but not much. They didnt react when I would wave at them as if they didnt see me either. His fins looked good. I first thought it was missing something in his diet. I only feed mysys and some seaweed if they want. I used to feed brine but they hve been on the mysis for the last year at least. They are reaching there adv age on when they die from what I read so I am not that bummed. Weird though because I loks 3 PJ cardnals within days of eachother. All my water tests come out fine. the Blue tang acually looks better. He used to pale out in the face but that has come back. He was pale in the faace about a year of so. The goby seems fine. I am going to bring a water sample to the shop to see if they can do more extencive tests. I have a blog bostonricb-all my tanks if you want a history of the tank

You were saying something in another post regarding pH. If this is the case, this is the MAJOR factor right now. You need to resolve the pH factor before adding livestock to the tank. It's best to re home the sick fish until you can get your pH stabilized.

What are your current tank parameters?

I am thinking since you did a "Gravel Clean" it might be an ammonia issue. Common symptoms of an Ammonia problem can be fish gills "Panting" like the are trying for more oxygen. I would highly recommend testing your water and posting the Parameters on here for us to review. Though, The ammonia may be under control by this point. It is hard to say. Sometimes Ammonia spikes(from "Spring Cleaning") often disappear as fast as they show up. But, Unfortunately it doesn't take much to cause harm to the fish. I will keep an eye out for some Parameters and we will go from there.
