LED timing questions

I just purchased my first LED light and so far I thinks it's amazing, but I have a couple of questions. First off I purchased the Marineland Aquatic Plant LED with timer for my 36 gallon bow front tank. I replaced the T-5 light and placed it on my new Cichlid Tank (another story) and the plants are thriving better then ever before. My question is this, it has the setting from the factory that uses the blue light for one hour then the white light comes on for ten hours then back to one hour of blue, it spans from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., what's the true purpose of the short blue light cycles and also what would be the ideal time span for both.
If it helps I normally feed at nine at night and this is a heavy planted tank, I also will add carbon to the tank twice a week.
If anyone has one of the units or can give some pointers I would be thankful.

The change is to somewhat simulate the dawn, high noon, dusk cycle of the earth using just two spectrum...as you've already noticed, it's not exactly true to life. IMHO you want to limit your "high-noon" photo period to around 4-6 hours and the blue period is irrelevant because that spectrum really doesn't do anything for your plants...it's only real purpose is to give you an observation period without the main lights being on.
