New german blue rams

Have a Freshwater/Saltwater Question? This is a place to put it and maybe it will be used in an upcoming issue of TFH Magazine in the Freshwater Q&A, Saltwater Q&A, or letters to the editor.

New german blue rams

Postby fishgirl (139) » Sat Feb 09, 2013 12:15 am

So i was browsing at my local petsmart and found blue rams. I was SO excited. They were only $5 and thats a deal since the last one i bought was $16. I bought a pair to begin with my new tank plan. It does look like i mightve gotten a male and a female. Will they breed? I'm hoping that they will survive despite my pH.( One of these days ill have to pick up some driftwood or peat) But for the time being is there anything that you can inform me about breeding? I think it would be a really neat experience to at least try. Also, if you have any other ideas other than peat and driftwood to help lower my pH please dont hesitate to share! Thanks!

sounds like you got a good buy,and i think peat would be the best thing to useto lower you pH but the rams might like the driftwood if it is shaped in a way that they can hide under it,so you might want to use both.

Now that I'm getting a better look at them they actually seem to be both male but whatever. Maybe ill get another i really like them and almost peed my pants when i saw they were only $5!! I'm going to my lfs tonight to check out the driftwood and purchase some live plants to kinda transform my aquarium. While I'm at it ill try checking out the peat but i may not need it after all. They seem to be acting normal and adjusting to their large company well! Thanks for the reply!!

Ended up getting a male female anyways. I got 2 more and theyre for sure male female. What should i look for in breeding behavior. One of the males seems to have a particular interest in the female but I'm not sure if they are a for sure pair yet?
