Re: Hello from Canada
Sorry for the brief introduction, as I tried to post earlier but got denied, but I guess it takes time to get confirmation upon signing up.
I would like to say that unlike the info I've been reading so far on here, the TFH magazine is great stuff about the hobby. I've been keeping fish off and on for about 30yrs+, from the early 80s and I would like to call it the dark ages IMO, as it was hard getting info and advice from a lfs. A book was expensive as a young teen, it was all trial and error as most if you know this. You buy fish, bring them home, if the lfs sold you Prime and you used it, your fish survived! But know one knew jack about water cycle, and even the fish that they sold us at the time, lots of misconception back then , and IMO lots of people just quit the hobby and void never to return. When friends or people find out I have fish, the first thing they say is" it must be a lot of work"? I reply, " what isn't" !!!
Well I'm over addicted now and a better understanding of the hobby , by research and common fish keeping sense, and just getting involved more, its been a great stress relief but not in the wallet!
I'm currently running a small set up ATM, I have a 90g planted, with two Discus, Angels, various Tetras, BN plecos, and a couple of Rams in that tank. I've started a couple of breeding projects with GBRs , and some newly acquired dwarf golden Cockatoo Apistos , in a small harem for now. My goal is to move someday soon, and build my dream fishroom, to try my hand at Discus and my also dream Altums Angels are my two favs , but I prefer SA fish and everything Amazonian!!! One day I will venture off to the SW Side, but for now I'm full with enough fish now !

Re: Hello from Canada
Welcome to the clan! Glad to see another addicted fish keeper. I know what you mean about trial & error. If you ever venture to the SW side, I am your guy! haha. . . That is my favorite. I myself keep many tanks for local customers here. Get to enjoy the hobby without the added expense. In fact, I get paid to do it! HAHA Anyway, Glad to meet you! I look forward to getting to know you better.

Re: Hello from Canada
Hello Skylane. I am not from Canada. But I have visited your beautiful country many times. I'm from Chicago. I share your interest in Dwarf Cichlids . I have the regular cool Rams and Electric Blue Rams. Those were the fish of my dreams when I was a little kid. 50 years later I have them. I never heard of Cockatoo Apistos. I took a look for them and man those are some cool looking cichlids. I read about them on This site TFH. They seem like a good fit for my community tank. I bred Bristal Nose Plecos. Also blue/black guppies. Are their many tropical fish stores in Canada? Not big box but mom and pop stores that are knowledgeable. I also go to the Greater Chicago Cichlid Association swap meet. The last one of the season is Saturday. I am going to look for Cockatoo Apistos and Lemon Cichlids. Cheers Jeff

Re: Hello from Canada
It seems that bulk of people here are either from Canada or Florida. Hilarious. Cold'n'Hot.
