Hello from Galway

Postby GalwayFishFan (18) » Sun Jan 27, 2013 4:29 pm

Hello everyone!

I'm new to the forum, so I thought I'd introduce myself to everyone :)

I'm an Englishman currently living and working in Galway, Ireland. It's one of the most relaxed and chilled out places to live in a relaxed and chilled out country.

I guess like most people here I fell in love with fish at a young age. Due to my mother being allergic to fur, we could only have fish in the house for pets. Living in Galway is ideal, it has a nice local aquarium showing some of the local Saltwater fish to be found in the region (It's in Salthill, for any fish lovers who are planing on a visit).

I started fish keeping about 20 years ago with a small 5 gallon tank. The lfs was a family run store who always had great help and advice for me when I didn't know anything about keeping fish. I kept that tank for about 3 years before having to move away for work.

Since then, I've not been able to keep up with my love of fishkeeping due to travel, work and domestic demands, but I bite the bullet again about 2 1/2 years ago with another 5 gallon tank. So much has changed in 20 years! Water hardness? pH? ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? So much to keep up with!

I found a good deal on a 29 Gallon tank and stand at the lfs, so that's currently running a fishless cycle-I can't wait to get that sucker up and running! I've got some stocking idea's (and questions) for the tank, but I'll keep that for another thread in the right forum.

So, I hope everyone's had a good new year, and is having luck with their tanks, and I'm sure you'll see me posting in the forums when I get a change.

Take it easy!
GalwayFishFan.

Welcome to our Forum! I also got back into our hobby after a long break and was overwhelmed by the "new stuff". I found this site and learn a TON. I asked lots of questions, and when I wasn't looking, they went and made me a Moderator! Anyway, welcome again to the site where every fish nut in the world feels at home. Glad you joined us!

Hey Guys.

Yeah, I kinda 'lurked' on the forums a bit before I decided to join-always good to know what kind of community you're getting into :) Everyone seems nice, happy and friendly enough from the forum, and I've learned SO much just by osmosis!

Some of the fishtanks and fish in the photo's section are really insipiring! So many tanks I'd love to have in my house. I'm sure I'll get there eventually.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

GFF, I'm from Scotland, transplanted into Canada since 1977, though I've spent more time in the US than anything. Welcome to the Forums, and I did the same thing, I lurked for close to a year before joining in 2004.

We are from all over, but share a common hobby, we're glad to have you onboard.

Welcome aboard Galway! I know I lurked a bit before I started posting and whatnot. It's a great place to learn and get advice.

Don't know how you did it but you've already reached 'Gary's Friend Forever' status aka GFF. Good show!
